Shortcut of the Week [Ctrl] [J]

[Ctrl] [J]=Dulicate Layer

When I open an image into photoshop, [Ctrl] [J] is the very first action I take.

When opening a JPEG image, "background" will be the only
layer you will see in your "Layers" pallet to the right of your screen. By pressing [Ctrl] [J] you make an exact duplicate
of this layer.

From that point on you can make all your adjustments to the duplicate layer. If at any time you decide you do not like the adjustments you have made to your photo, you can delete the duplicate layer and have your original image still in tact.

This shortcut can be used to duplicate any layer at any time during the editing process.

This is a very good place to start as a beginer. If you have used photoshop for a while this is probably a familer shortcut to you.
For me this is probably the second most used shortcut. What is the first.....find out on the next Short Cut of the Week.
